Child Adoption Initial Information

Adoption through Grace Children Adoption Home (a part of Lashbrook Family Ministries) follows the general pattern for all international adoptions. Interested families should send a preliminary letter of interest to the Stateside Mission Services Office at the address below.  This letter is a basic letter of introduction and should include information about your family and why you wish to adopt a Haitian child, your spiritual walk and church affiliation and the ages of all family members.   It should also give any preference information such as gender, age, or if you are interested in adopting a sibling group of 2 or more children.

If your information matches the criteria for adoptive parents in our program you will be invited to visit the mission and meet the children.  Building relationships is what our mission is all about and we firmly believe God will direct in making the perfect match between prospective parents and a child they are meant to bring into their family. Once a match has been made you may submit an application to adopt that child. A non- refundable application fee of $1500 and a copy of your passport picture must accompany your application. This will allow the mission to begin the required paperwork on the Haitian side.  Once you have committed to adopt a child from Grace Children Adoption Home we ask that you begin sending $100 per month for support.  Since the adoption fee only covers adoption expenses, this monthly support will help with rent, food, and staff payroll at the children’s home.  Grace Children Adoption Home is a childcare facility where children awaiting adoption are cared for in a loving family environment until their adoption is complete.  Your monthly support of $100 does not cover the entire cost for your child’s care but it will certainly help.

As with any U.S. adoption, you will be required to have a home study.  You will work with a social worker or lawyer to complete the details required to complete your adoption according to the laws of the United States and your home state. You may also contact our stateside coordinator with questions regarding your adoption.  With the help of your attorney, adoption agency or our adoption coordinator you will then begin preparing your dossier in the U.S.  Your dossier will include, but not be limited to, the following documents: adoptive parents’ birth certificates, marriage license, identification documents, criminal records, bank records, job references, church references, and 3 personal references.   Some of the paperwork may require the help of an attorney.  Your agency will tell you what exactly is needed or you may be able to find sufficient help on the internet. The completed dossier and all required attachments, the balance of the fee for the Haitian side of the adoption ($5500), along with a legally verified French translation of all paperwork will be submitted next.  After this submission you can expect the Haitian side of the adoption to take a minimum of 6 months to 1 year.

We estimate the total cost for adoption to be between $18,000 and $20,000. The cost varies greatly depending on which agency you choose and how much you are able to do on your own on the U.S. side of the adoption. The Haitian side will be $7000.  You will also be required to
make 2 trips to the mission; one at the beginning of the relationship and one when you come to pick up your child to take to your home.  You are welcome to visit as many times as you wish during the adoption process but only these 2 trips are required.

This is an informational statement of our basic adoption procedures. Each adoption is different and may or may not include some of the items mentioned. Please contact our stateside adoption coordinator if you wish to speak to someone personally regarding adoption through Grace Children Adoption Home.
